Vasco: Applauding Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha for her open stand against the doubling of South Western Railway (SWR) track project, Goencho Ekvott and the Village Action Committee Against Doubling of SWR Tracks on Wednesday said the other legislators should also consider her request and support the people on the issue.

Both the groups questioned the other legislators whether they do not support the people of Goa, who are against the doubling of tracks and other projects, which will lead to mass destruction of Goa’s biodiversity.

Goencho Ekvott, an umbrella organisation of likeminded civil society members, which is opposing the expansion of NH4A, the 40KV transmission line and the doubling of railway tracks,  hailed the Cortalim MLA for siding with the Goans on the issue of doubling of railway tracks.

GE said other MLAs including those in the Opposition should also consider her request and support people on the issue of doubling of railway tracks.

Similarly, the Village Action Committee Against Doubling of SWR Tracks mentioned that in the recent fight of the public against doubling of South Western Railway tracks, Alina has backed the people of Goa for a good cause. She is fighting tooth and nail to save Goa from unsustainable development.

"Don’t the other elected representatives feel any sense of responsibility for the people who have brought them to power? Do they accept this so-called development for transportation of coal to Karnataka, which has no benefit to the people of Goa,” the committee questioned.
