PANJIM:  Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Archbishop Rev Filipe Neri Ferrão have extended their warm greetings to the Goan Muslim brethren on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In his message, the Governor said, “This festival marks the end of Ramadan which is a Holy Month of fasting. Ramadan is not only about refraining from food and drink, but is also about abstaining from evil thoughts, words and actions. Prophet Mohammad preached the eternal values of love, peace, brotherhood and compassion. In the present troubled world, let us practice these noble principles in the best interests of national solidarity and social harmony.”

“This year while rejoicing on this auspicious occasion, let us remember to strictly follow all the health protocols and guidelines and to stay safe. May this Eid-ul-Fitr bring renewed peace, prosperity and happiness to one and all,” the Governor added.

In a DIP press release, the Chief Minister said, “The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the Holy Month of Ramzan. Let us on this occasion rededicate ourselves to the service of humanity and follow the path of love and universal brotherhood. Let us celebrate this festival with adherence to COVID safety protocols on account of rapid surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. May this day deepen the spirit of harmony, peace and solidarity in the society.”

In his message, the Archbishop said, “On behalf of the Church in Goa and on my own, I wish the Muslim brothers and sisters of our State a peaceful and joyful celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. This festival marks the end of Ramadan, a month of several religious and social practices like fasting, prayer, almsgiving, helping the poor, visiting family and friends, etc. Acts of charity and compassion are of utmost importance, especially today. In this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we extend our hands in solidarity with them, to promote genuine love and care, especially for the suffering and the needy, inspired by our Creator, who is the source of all human relationships. Eid Mubarak!”
