PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has adjourned to August 6 the hearing in a petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the controversy over formalin in fish.

Panjim resident Shivraj Kamat Tarcar, had earlier this month moved the High Court seeking a judicial inquiry into the events that unfolded since July 12 and also sought a ban on the import of fish till the Food & Drugs Administration in the State is equipped with facilities to ensure fish sold in Goa is not laced with chemicals.

Meanwhile, a Margao advocate has approached the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao seeking to register a FIR against the Food & Drugs Administration Director, fish vendors and others involved in the conspiracy. He cited his complaints to the Fatorda police and the South Goa Superintendent, none of which are registered as on date.

He also sought arrest and interrogation of the wholesale fish agents/operators of the 17 trucks that imported the fish laced with formalin. He had earlier filed a complaint with Crime Branch seeking an FIR under Prevention of Corruption Act against FDA Director Jyoti Sardessai, fish trader Maulana Ibrahim among others.
