History-sheeter from Majorda nabbed by Calangute police

Calangute: A history-sheeter from Majorda was arrested by the Calangute police from Arambol on Friday after a two-day hunt. 

Agustinho Carvalho was arrested for allegedly committing theft of a gold chain worth Rs 50,000 and Rs 9,500 recently. 

Calangute PI Dattaguru Sawant said they had received a complaint from Arjun Bedadolakar, a resident of Tivaiwado, Calangute, that on Wednesday, November 30, at 9.20 am at Calangute Tinto, an unknown accused person took Bedadolakar in his car and dropped him on the way and thereafter alighted from the car and snatched his gold chain weighing 10 gms worth Rs 50,000 from his neck and also took Rs 9,500. The accused then fled from the spot.

Calangute police have registered an offence under sections 323, 356, 379 IPC and are investigating the case. On checking the CCTV footage, police traced the car involved in the crime and found that Carvalho, a resident of Majorda, Salcete, a habitual offender involved in several similar crimes, had committed the crime.

Carvalho was found  hiding in the Arambol-Keri area in Pernem, following which a team led by PI Sawant stayed in the area for two days and finally nabbed him on Friday morning. 

The accused is a hard-core active criminal wanted in more than 20 serious crimes registered against him at various police stations in Goa, PI Sawant said.
