PANJIM: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday said that the polling staff unable to attend duty the next day would be treated as ‘On election duty’ and they need not report to work the day after the polling.

In a circular, the SEC W V Ramanamurthy said that after the polling for panchayat elections on August 10, and if the ballot boxes reach the collection/receiving centres late hours then such presiding and polling officers will not be treated as absent from their normal duty if they do not report for their duty on August 11. But they have to report for the normal duties on August 12, which is also the day for counting votes.

The returning officer concerned will have to certify the attendance of the polling personnel for the day following the date of the poll.
