MARGAO: Navelim MLA Luizinho Falierio launched the work of hot-mixing the roads in Navelim on Tuesday. 

Faleiro said that road works were postponed and delayed because of the sewerage department. “This one department is spending crores of money to destroy the roads in Navelim. They have damaged all the roads very fast but they don’t want to spend a single rupee on repairing the roads,” he said and blamed the contractor of having delayed the hot-mixing works.

The programme was also attended by sarpanchs and deputy sarpanchs of Navelim and Telaulim.

Faleiro stated that wherever the sewerage works have completed, the contractor would be laying the hot-mix on the road and that he has requested the public to take the connection quickly so that it can be hot-mixed. “This money being spent on the roads is taxpayers’ money so we don’t want the sewerage department to damage the roads once it is hot-mixed for the next three years,” Faleiro said.

“I have asked all the four departments of sewerage which are JICA, Sewerage Corporation and Sewerage department who are continuously breaking the roads and then covering it with a butter thin layer of asphalt which breaks up after a few vehicles drive over it. They should fill up the trench and then asphalt it three times,” he said. 

He informed that the people of Navelim are unhappy because good quality roads have been damaged.

He highlighted the poor quality of sewerage works and demanded a judicial inquiry whether the sewerage contracts which are given to different departments with no coordination. “Tomorrow when the sewerage lines are commissioned it will create havoc because they are laid close to the water pipes,” he said.
