VASCO: In a horrific incident, a husband killed his wife at Shantinagar, Vasco using an iron rod, on Friday.

The accused, Chaloba Kesarkar, who is a civil contractor returned home around 2.30 in the afternoon, allegedly fatally assaulted his wife, Vaishali Kesarkar after a heated argument, in their residence. The incident sent shockwaves in the neighbourhood.

Vasco Police Inspector Kapil Nayak told O Heraldo that Chaloba used an iron rod to strike his wife Vaishali on the head, resulting in her death instantly.

Vaishali’s father informed that the Chaloba had been harassing Vaishali for a long time and had even assaulted their son.

On Friday afternoon, when the incident occurred, their 16-year-old son had gone to meet his maternal grandmother who lives in the vicinity.

On an earlier occasion, after an argument, Vaishali had filed a complaint with the Vasco police accusing her husband of harassing her. The Vasco police had registered a non-cognisable offence and Chaloba was summoned to the police station. He was warned against repeating his behaviour and harassing Vaishali.

When police questioned the accused, he confessed that he suspected that his wife was having illicit relations with a neighbour. The issue resulted in an argument between husband and wife, resulting in the grievous assault, which led to the death of his wife.

After murdering his wife, Chaloba allegedly stood at the door with the iron rod, preventing people from entering his house. Vaishali’s father said he forcefully entered the house and found his daughter lying in a pool of blood.

Subsequently, Chaloba surrendered before the Vasco Police. Upon receiving the distressing call, Vasco police immediately responded to the scene, launching a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

PI Nayak said that the accused has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of IPC. He will be produced before the Court for remand, on Saturday.
