I felt at home after joining BJP: Babush
Whereas Babu says the 10 Congress MLAs merged for ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’
PANJIM: The group of 10 former Congress MLAs have claimed that they merged into the BJP for ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ as they wanted the development of their constituencies which was hampered for years.
Former Leader of Opposition, Babu Kavalekar said that the MLAs who had joined the ruling side were upset with the developments in Congress since the Assembly elections in 2017. He said, “When you were given the numbers by the people and it was against the incumbent govt and yet they could not form the govt because of some of the senior leaders. It has been years that we have been waiting and the development in our constituencies has got hampered. To facilitate development and fulfil the promises that we made on the eve of the elections we had to join the ruling side.”
Meanwhile, Panjim MLA Babush Monserrate who joined the Congress on the eve of the by-elections in March this year, said “I joined the Congress couple of times. They had said it is the home coming of the prodigal son. But I realised that I really did not belong there. After joining the BJP I actually felt at home. There was warmthness in the meeting with the BJP President.”
Stating that he will not try to convince the people about his decision, he said “Let people judge me when my term ends. I want to fulfil what I have promised and let people decide when my term ends whether I have fulfilled what I had said.” He added that he has been given the assurance that all his promises would be fulfilled with the slogan ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.
Further, St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira said that six of the seven panchayats in his constituency have been part of his decision making. “The sarpanchas of six panchayats have extended their support to me in my decision. The one sarpanch was always with the BJP so didn’t consult him. I want to fulfil the needs of the people of the constituency.”
He added he would accept any responsibility given to him during the remaining term of the tenure as MLA. “I have not made any demand and whatever corporation or responsibility is given to me, I will take the responsibility. My objective is to provide the development of the people of my constituency”, he added.
