PANJIM: In view of a possible development of a low pressure area in the Arabian Sea this weekend, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Observatory has warned fishermen from venturing into the sea till June 4. The warning is in force due to rough weather and sea conditions.

IMD official Rahul Mohan said there is a likely development of a low pressure area over South-East and adjoining East-Central Arabian Sea by May 29 or May 30. “In view of this, the fishermen are advised to avoid deep sea fishing activity from May 31 to June 4,” he said adding that IMD is monitoring the situation.

He said that within 48 hours the exact course of intensification of the low pressure area will be confirmed.

Fishing activities in the State will come to halt from June 1 with the 61-day annual fishing ban period coming into force.

Meanwhile, the weather conditions in the State remained extremely hot, with the day temperature touching 35 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature was at 28 degrees Celsius.

The arrival of the south-west monsoon has been delayed over Goa, as the onset of monsoon over the Kerala coast is expected on or after June 5.
