PERNEM: Under the nose of the Mandrem Panchayat, an estate company has erected an iron sheet compound right near Ashwem Beach.

Not to surprise but the erected compound is giving a clue that another alleged illegal sea facing construction is coming up, close to Ashwem Beach violating the CRZ norms.

Sources informed that from the past one week the work of erection of a compound wall of iron sheets is going without the knowledge of the local panchayat.

The panchayat sources claimed that the local body is unaware of who has taken up the work.

Meanwhile on Friday, after local panch Serafin Fernandes complained about the same to the panchayat, the members along with Sarpanch Ashweta Mandrekar visited the site and issued a stop order notice and pasted the same on the compound wall.

The compound wall is being erected in Survey No. 211/2/A1 211/2/A2 which as per record is owned by Cochin Estate Limited where Shri Dev Ajoba Temple is also located.

Thousands of square metres of land, is covered with iron sheets which is located in no development zone.

The locals have also raised questions on how the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has issued permission for such an activity, which is right close to the beach.
