Improvements at KTC depot to be short term and short-lived

Improvements at KTC depot to be short term and short-lived

MARGAO: Staff at the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) at Margao has a glimmer of hope of seeing a better bus depot. But they also see the reality of these being short term flashes in the pan, since the big money will be spent on the brand new bus terminus.

On Monday, KTCL Managing Director Venancio Furtado came to inspect and ordered to undertake certain works that need to be done for the improvement of the basic infrastructure at the depot.

The media had highlighted the bad state of the depot restrooms and sanitary facilities.

Speaking on having control over the entry and exit of the KTC bus stop, the MD said there are issues regarding the toilets and sanitation facilities, which were built 80 years ago.

However, Furtado clarified that though they have to do maintenance every year they won't spend much money for a clear reason.

"The plan for the improved bus terminus at the Margao depot is still live and there is no point in spending money building something which we ourselves may have to demolish later," he said.

The KTCL MD said the toilets have been rendered unusable because the bus depot is in a low-lying area and the tanks, which hold all the wastewater, fill up in rains.

"We have been waiting for the sewerage connection for 3 years, but no sign as yet," he said.

The Government will have to soon clarify on their stand to either have a new bus stop or to continue with the old one with renovations.
