PANJIM: Against the backdrop of 10 Congress legislators splitting from the party, a former congress lawmaker Vishwajit Rane has blamed All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) outgoing President Rahul Gandhi for the current crisis.
Cabinet minister Vishwjait Rane, who quit Congress in March 2017, has also said that Gandhi was the reason why he switched his loyalty to BJP. “Congress is on the path of getting totally disintegrated and especially with the type of leadership Rahul Gandhi offers to the people of the country. The situation today is such that all the people are deserting the Congress because there is no hope,” said Rane, while speaking on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the canteen facility for Girls Hostel at GMC, Bambolim on Friday.
He also referred to Gandhi’s stubbornness to not continue as the party president, reason behind others deserting the national party. “Congress is becoming history. When the captain of the ship is deserting the party, what’s left? I also quit the party because of Rahul Gandhi. When he has no vision and control over his people…The people of Amethi also showed him the doors,” he commented.
Reacting to the new induction of Congress legislators into BJP, the health minister said it will further strengthen the party. He also expressed confidence that the ruling party will handle any situation through its expertise.
Asked to comment about his father and Congress loyalist Pratapsing Rane, the minister refused to make any statement but was quick to state that his father might also be upset with the Congress.
“According to me, he also must be totally frustrated with the Congress leadership. I would have been happy if he came with me also (joined the BJP). I have no problem. We would have stayed in one party rather than being in two different parties,” he quipped.
