Kalliz vhelem chorum...Canacona’s Reha steals audience hearts at Goencho Avaz

MARGAO: Reha Kimberley Correia from Canacona won the singles category at the fourth edition of Herald Group’s Goencho Avaz held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Sunday.

Reha enthralled the jam-packed audience with “Kalliz Vhelem Chorun” a composition of Chris Perry. 

In the singles category, runner-up Melcia Lobo from Bardez performed the 1981 hit by Sharon and Wilmix Mazarello “Sonvsar Bhovun Aileam”, while third-placed Pricy Da Gama from Cortalim sang “Kitem Korum,” a 1976 hit by Rita Rose and Alfred Rose.

In the duet category, Pricy Da Gama and Grezello Fernandes bagged the first place, while the second place went to Anneli Pereira and Jain Da Silva followed by Thrizel D'Souza and Noywen Fernandes standing third. 

Cortalim-Colva duo of Pricy Da Gama and Grezello Fernandes sang “Dadleponn” of Alfred and Rita Rose, while the runner-up duo of Anneli Pereira and Jain da Silva from Azossim-Cortalim performed “Axirvad Zavo” by C Alvares and Ophelia Cabral. The third-placed Cortalim duo of Noywen Fernandes and Thrizel D'Souza sang the famous “Yo Moga Tum Mhojea Sukha”, a 1963 hit of Martha, Molly and Star of Arossim Remie Colaco.

Noted musicians Sigmund De Souza, Fr Bernardo Cota and Sai Palondicar were the judges. 

Norman Cardozo and his band provided some scintillating music which kept the audience tapping their feet as the participants delivered their best.

Rocky Wilz Studio captured the beautiful moments as the official photographer while Agnelo de Borim hosted the event. Dr Martin and his dance academy “Dance Illusions” put up a special dance performance at the event which was co-sponsored by Ulhas Jewellers. There were also special medley performances by previous Goencho Avaz finalists.

Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Ravindra Bhavan chairman Prashant Naik were present.

The beauty of this competition is the introduction before each performance which provides info of the original song, its singers, lyricists and music composers.

The finalists in age group of 15 to 25 years mesmerised the gathering as they performed songs by well-known singers such as Lorna, Antonette, Rita Rose, Alfred Rose, C Alvares, Ophelia and Bab Peter from 1970s to 1990s.

The audience comprising of priests, nuns, children, families, enthusiasts, old, young thronged Ravindra Bhavan to watch the finals. Four days ago, there was a mad rush as people scrambled for tickets and passes.
