VALPOI: Throwing of garbage into river, large scale illegal constructions, lack of clean drinking water and frequent power failures were some of the issues discussed at the Keri gram sabha on Sunday.

The gram sabha passed resolutions to clean the village water treatment plant and lay underground power cables.

After being cornered over the inaction of the panchayat against the rampant illegal constructions, Sarpanch Laxman Gawas assured to take actions against the same. He also assured to stop anyone from throwing garbage into the local river.

Gawas informed that the panchayat was sanctioned Rs 10 lakh under the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), however, since the panchayat was not able to use the money, the same was re-credited in government account.

He also informed that the panchayat building is very small and too old; hence, it might collapse at anytime. Therefore, he said, a proposal for constructing a new panchayat building was sent to the Director of Panchayat way back in the year 2007. “However, the Director of Panchayat has not approved the proposal till date. Therefore, I will follow up with the Director,” Gawas added. The meeting was attended by over 100 villagers.
