Khadi lounge now in Margao

The Governor inagurated the store which was first launched in 1976 and the outlet will feature all the outfits designed by Ritu Beri

MARGAO: Governor Mridula Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the renovated Khadi shop at Margao now called Khadi Lounge which wears a swank new look having two mannequins for the first time adorned in clothes including western attire made of khadi material.

Khadi and Village Industries Commission had started the shop at Margao in 1976 and this is the first time it has been renovated and refurbished to house wide range of products of daily use besides fabrics and materials.Observing that Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of promoting khadi is being realized, the governor acknowledged that khadi is appealing to all sections of the society and that khadi has also changed to cater to every need of people.

The Khadi lounge has western attire made of khadi material and these outfits have been designed by noted designer Ritu Beri. Besides, there is an entire counter with herbal products including cosmetics and health food.The store also has towels and khadi materials besides kurtas for men and women and pyjamas and khadi materials including silk.

Later, speaking at the function organised at Ravindra Bhawan, the governor recalled what a significant role khadi played in the independence movement of India.
