PONDA: Congress party’s Lok Sabha candidate for North Goa, Ramakant Khalap, along with leaders of the INDIA alliance, campaigned in Bhoma, Priol Constituency, on Sunday, addressing the concerns of the villagers.

The primary issue raised by the villagers was the proposed expansion of the National Highway, which they fear would negatively impact their village, leading to division, loss of houses, and disruption of temple culture.

Ramkant Khalap accused incumbent MP, Shripad Naik, of failing to address major problems in Goa over the past 25 years, despite being elected five times. He emphasised that if elected, his priority would be to find a solution to the issues faced by the Bhoma villagers regarding the NH expansion plan.

During the meeting at Nagzar Devastan Bhoma, MLA Vijai Sardesai of the Goa Forward party expressed disappointment that despite Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s willingness to address the Bhoma road expansion issue, politicians in Goa failed to provide a solution. He urged the villagers to support Ramkant Khalap in order to resolve their problems effectively.

MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira echoed similar sentiments, criticising Shripad Naik for failing to utilise his ministerial position for the development of Goa. He emphasised the need for change and stated that the current ‘double-engine government’ at the State and Centre, has failed to meet the aspirations of the people.
