CORLIM: A pall of gloom descended on the Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola on Saturday following the murder of Professor Gauri Achari.
Students and teaching staff expressed grief over untimely death of their popular scholar Prof Gauri. As a mark of respect to the departed soul, the College was kept closed on Saturday.
College Principal Purnakala Samant said that Prof Gauri’s demise is a great loss to the education sector. “Gauri joined our college in June last year and was a Microbiology Professor and was teaching students up to post-graduation with full dedication. She was a scholar in her subject, and she was about to leave for Serbia to present her research paper on Saturday but sadly she is not amongst us and it’s difficult to believe. We all congratulated her as she was to present her research paper.”
Principal Samant said that Prof Gauri was in the college till late Thursday evening however late news of her death shocked the. It is really difficult to believe that she is no more.
Prof Dr. Dilecta D’Costa said that Prof Gauri was a disciplined, hardworking, very good teacher and expert in her scientific research. On Saturday she was supposed to leave Goa for Mumbai and then fly to Serbia to present her research paper on Microbiology at the international conference scheduled in July, but sadly this could not happen.
Gauri Achari completed her MSc and Ph.D. from Goa University and Post Doctorate at BITS-Pilani, Zuarinagar.
Vaishnavi Shet, a second-year MSc student pursuing Microbiology said that prof Gauri was popular among students. “We lost our guide and loving teacher. I just can't believe that she is not among us. Her teaching was impressive, lively, and energetic, and was developing an interest in her subject. We used to enjoy it. She was not just an expert in her subject but also provided students with career guidance and helpful in research work,” said Vaishnavi.
