PONDA: Twenty-one-year-old Sneha Mahadev Prabu, a resident of Kalmamol-Borim and TY BSc student of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, died in an accident involving a container truck and bike at Bhoma on Wednesday afternoon.

However, the rider, 20-year-old Vandit Vijaysham Mardolkar from Mardol–Priol, also a TY BSc student of the same college, sustained injuries.

According to Ponda PI, the container truck driven by 39-year-old Mehboob Sab Kasim Sab Gunari was proceeding towards Panjim while Vandit along with pillion rider Sneha were on their way to college. On reaching Bhoma near the Sateri Temple, Vandit lost control over his bike and hit the container truck from behind. The impact was such that Vandit fell on the right side of the road and sustained minor injuries, while Sneha fell on the left side behind the truck. The moment the locals witnessed the accident, they raised an alarm due to which driver instead of stopping the truck got confused and pulled the hand break which caused the vehicle to move behind and Sneha got crushed under the wheels.

Ponda Police later sent Sneha’s body to GMC for postmortem.

Condoling Sneha’s death, the Principal of Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola said they have lost a beloved daughter.

PI Mohan Gaude said Ponda Police have called both the container driver and Vandit and are investigating the case.

Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar said the narrow Bhoma-Banastarim road has become accident prone.
