PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured a delegation of Divar villagers that the government will hand over the Banastarim accident case (killer Merc case) that killed three persons and seriously injured three others to the Crime Branch on Thursday.
A delegation led by Cumbharjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai met the Chief Minister at Mantralay, Porvorim and demanded to hand over the case to the Crime Branch and to conduct judicial enquiry into the matter. The case is currently investigated by the Mardol Police.
After the meeting, Faldessai said that the Chief Minister has assured them to hand over the case to the Crime Branch by Thursday. They told the Chief Minister that they don’t have faith in the Mardol Police as they tried everything to protect Meghana Sawardekar, who is the owner of the Mercedes SUV.
Lawyer for the accident victims, Adv Raviraj Chodankar also demanded narco or lie detection test of Sawardekar couple. “We had no faith in Mardol Police from day one and we are not sure whether police have recorded the statements of all five occupants including three children in Mercedes car. We did not want to bring the children into this matter but children always speak the truth,” he said.
