Labourer killed in Porvorim, accused arrested

PORVORIM: A scuffle between two labourers over petty issues ended in a murder in the PWD tank compound at Pundalik Nagar, Porvorim on Sunday night.

Two labourers namely Ramanna Baddi and Basappa Hanshikutti, both natives of Karnataka, who were under the influence of alcohol, were involved in a scuffle.

A 48-year-old labourer, Ramappa Kavalura residing in a hut near PWD office at Pundalik Nagar complained to the police that the incident occurred on Sunday at 8 pm in the PWD tank compound. The accused Ramanna assaulted Basappa with a pick axe. Basappa, who sustained serious injuries, was shifted to the GMC, Bambolim where he succumbed while undergoing treatment. 

Within two hours of registering the offence, Porvorim Police arrested Ramanna for murder. An offence under Section 302 of IPC has been registered.

PI V P Karpe said there was no motive behind this murder.

“It is sudden provocation by victim over some pretty issues under the influence of alcohol. The accused was arrested on Monday morning from Pundalik Nagar, Porvorim,” said Karpe. 

Further investigation is in progress.
