NEW DELHI/PANJIM: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday directed the Goa Congress to launch an aggressive campaign and ensure the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming Assembly elections due early next year.

Gandhi chaired a meeting in New Delhi, which was attended by senior election observer P Chidambaram, general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, AICC Goa incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao, GPCC president Girish Chodankar and Goa CLP leader Digambar Kamat.

“Our leader Rahul Gandhi wants Congress in Goa to fulfil the aspirations and respect sentiments of people of Goa. We will take along our well wishers, sympathisers, supporters in our victory march towards elections 2022. We are certain to defeat Team BJP,” Rao said.

When contacted Kamat said he and Chodankar, along with leaders from four other poll-bound States, attended a meeting regarding poll preparedness. “We were given a presentation and more such meetings will be held in the run-up to the Assembly elections,” he said.

Reacting to Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro being unhappy with the party, Kamat said, “I don’t think a senior leader like Luizinho will leave the Congress. Somebody may be spreading rumours.”
