PANJIM: Taking cognisance of alcohol being drunk in public places, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said the government will bring out a law from next month to make drinking in public a cognizable offence.
He said that by this month-end or February, the new law will come into force. “Once this law is in force anyone found drinking in any public place will face action,” Parrikar said, after inaugurating the organic waste management plant at Patto
“I ask, do these people not have houses or for that matter restaurants to have drinks? Even if they drink at any public place they should have the decency to take back the empty liquor bottles instead of littering. These people will have to be disciplined and the government shall do it,” he said.
He added, “Littering will not be permitted, you can enjoy Goa but please don’t litter it. This message will have to go to locals as well as outsiders.”
The State has already banned drinking on the beaches.
