PANJIM: An advocate was stuck in Goa Medical College (GMC) lift for more than an hour due to its malfunctioning in the wee hours of Saturday (September 8).

The advocate, who apparently entered the lift at around 3 am was stuck on the third floor till around 4 am. In a video footage narrating his ordeal, the advocate is seen repeatedly pressing the elevator alarm but in vain. “There is no assistance in the GMC. Nobody is acknowledging the knocks or the alarm bell. I pity if it was a patient stuck in the lift who needed emergency care. Don’t know what would have happened to him,” he is seen speaking on his phone camera, video of which was shared with Herald.

The victim had also called the police and fire control rooms, and he did receive their calls back informing that Agasaim police and the fire brigade from Miramar had left for the venue to rescue him. However, for an hour there was no response, as per the video. In another video, a fire brigade is seen entering the hospital probably to evacuate the man from the malfunctioned lift.

Herald tried speaking to the Medical Superintendent Shivanand Bandekar for a comment but he failed to answer calls.
