PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has called for an organisational change in the party amidst speculation of him being given charge as the party’s State president. “There should be a change in the organisational set up,” he told reporters after a crucial meeting of the core committee members and the office bearers in the party’s head office in Panjim on Saturday.

He, however, refused to comment on speculation that he will replace MP Vinay Tendulkar as the party’s chief in Goa.

Parsekar had recently created a flutter when he demanded Tendulkar’s resignation indicating all is not well in the party. The party’s decision to induct former Congress MLAs Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte into the party triggered further controversy and fissures in the party.

“Tendulkar is inefficient and cannot take decisions on his own and therefore he should resign. The party high command should act on this. I am not saying this because of any personal grievance but in the interests of the party. He is acting like a puppet and has no decision-making power,” Parsekar had told the media outside Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza’s residence in November.

Interestingly, the meeting held on Saturday saw the presence of Tendulkar, Shirodkar and Sopte besides others. Satish Dhond, who has been transferred from Thane as Goa BJP’s organisational secretary, also attended his first meeting.

Emerging from the meeting, Shirodkar confirmed to reporters that Sopte and he would contest the by-polls from Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies respectively. The by-polls, he said, are expected by March. He denied any rift within the party.

The meeting also chalked out various programmes to be implemented across different constituencies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
