VASCO: The Legal Metrology Department recently conducted a raid at the Meta Strips facility in Sancoale, specifically targeting their weighbridge operations. The inspection was prompted by customer complaints citing irregularities in weight readings. Subsequently, a case has been officially registered against the company.

Inspector Nitin Purushan revealed that the department received complaints from customers who had purchased construction sand from Meta Strips. These complaints raised concerns about inconsistencies in recorded weights during transactions. “Consumers expressed worries about variations in the weight of the sand they purchased, with instances of weights ranging from 6 to 8 tonnes. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the weighbridge was the source of the issue, leading to erratic weight readings,” he said.

“On inspection of the road weighbridge belonging to Varama Sir India Logistics and Infrastructure , it was found to be due for stamping on October 26. Despite this, the weighbridge was used for weighing sand sold at Rs 3,095 per ton. When the weighbridge was checked by putting a weight of 500 kg, the display showed a reading of 420 kg, 80 kg short of the actual weight.
