Vasco: A leopard is reported to have been spotted by some persons along the Vasco-Verna stretch near Zuari tanks on Monday night.

Deputy Conservator of Forest South Goa Anil Shetgaonkar said, “Leopards tend to visit the hilly areas of Verna, Cortalim, Nuvem etc. If such wild animals are spotted in these densely populated areas then people should inform us so that we can take the necessary steps.”

Shetgaonkar said, “We have not received any intimation or complaint from anyone about the leopard moving along the Verna stretch. There are leopards in the hilly areas of Verna, Nuvem etc, but we cannot be sure about genuineness of the pictures as these days many of them are “Photoshopped” that circulated on social media."

Shetgaonkar said if people come across any wild animal frequenting the residential areas then they should inform the forest officials so that they can take appropriate steps to ensure people's safety. Social media was flooded with pictures of an adult leopard, which people claimed to have been spotted along the Vasco-Verna stretch.
