PANJIM: In a letter to North Goa Superintendent of Police Akshat Kaushal, the Congress party has requested him to direct the Police Inspector of Bicholim Police Station to book officials and individuals responsible for the death of an Electricity Department lineman due to electrocution while on duty at Bicholim.

In the letter, Goa Congress vice president Sunil Kawthankar stated, “I believe that you are aware that a young Assistant Lineman lost his life after being electrocuted at Bicholim recently. It is learned that the Bicholim Police have registered an unnatural death and no one is named in the FIR till date.”

He said “This is very shocking and unfortunate that the investigation is moving ahead at a slow pace. Is this so because the innocent life lost is of an ordinary common man? And not any VIP or relative of VIP?”

He requested the SP to direct the PI Bicholim to book the responsible officials or any individuals responsible immediately and initiate necessary action as prescribed under law.

It may be recalled that in a shocking incident, Manoj Zambaulikar, a resident of Pilgao,  an Electricity Department lineman lost his life when he was electrocuted while working on an electricity pole at Housing Board, Bicholim.

The incident occurred due to a sudden power surge, while Manoj was working, even as it was claimed that the power supply to the high tension line was switched off.

However, Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes had said that after the mishap occurred due to reverse supply from the inverter of the Fitness Factory. Before undertaking the work, the lineman had switched off the supply from both sides and a discharge rod was used.
