PANJIM: With no mass gathering permitted in view of the lockdown due to COVID-19, the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media (DCSCM) has informed that live streaming of the masses will be the medium to reach out to the followers.

The Church was one of the first institutions to take necessary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, by instructing its faithful to maintain social distancing and take precautionary measures, even before the government enforced lockdown.

However now, as the Holy Week has begun, and being the most holy part of the year for the Catholics, the DCSCM said it is deeply saddened that ‘our faithful cannot attend the liturgical services as one community.’

“Even then we choose to support the good measures taken by the government and hence we have asked our priests not to have congregational masses. However, the priests will celebrate masses on their own and use modern means of communication to telecast/live stream the masses to their people. They have been advised to take all precautionary measures of social distancing, sanitisation etc. while they are telecasting the liturgical celebrations,” DCSCM Director Fr Barry Cardozo said in a press statement.

The Church has reeled off the schedule of the telecast/live stream, while inviting all the Catholics and brothers and sisters of other faiths too to join spiritually as it prays for the healing of the world.

“Be assured that the priests will be praying for each one of you, irrespective of cast, creed and religion. We will lift up our prayers especially for the patients, medical staff helping the patients, Government officials, policemen, traders and transport personnel providing essentials, the poor and needy, media professionals and all those who are on the field helping in saving the humankind from Covid-19. People are requested to stay at home and pray from home,” the press release further states.
