CALANGUTE: In politics and on paper, they may be archrivals, but that has not stopped Calangute’s BJP MLA Michael Lobo and former MLA and Congress leader Agnelo Fernandes from engaging in a duel of a jovial kind.
Such has been the confidence over the success of their respective candidates in the Calangute ZP polls, that Lobo and Fernandes are learnt to have betted with each other on the outcome of the polls.
Fernandes has betted that the electorate of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora-Nagoa would vote for his candidate, Ramkrishna Kerkar, with such a margin, that Lobo’s candidate would be placed third in the list.
Lobo has, however, betted that his candidate, Shawn Martins, would oust Kerkar in the polls.
The Joseph Sequeira camp is also confident of a resounding win for their candidate, Savio Gonsalves, in view of negative voting for BJP due to communal violence against the minorities in the country.
