Locals complain of parking, construction material dumping by roadside in Ponda Taluka

PONDA: The villagers from various parts of Ponda Taluka on Sunday complained of vehicles being parked and construction material dumped by the roadside causing traffic hurdles and posing risk to the commuters.

Locals from Adpoi and Marcaim demanded that the village panchayats, Traffic Police and RTO officials at least once a year should inspect the internal roads to get rid of these problems and find an immediate solution.

A local Sandesh Naik said, “Many house owners, residing by the roadside due to shortage of space, park their vehicles on the narrow roads. Suitable solution should be found out so that these people will not park their vehicles intentionally on the road. During the night, one can witness vehicles are parked by the roadside in queues blocking the visibility.” 

He said, “Due to this problem, often it becomes difficult to provide way to other vehicles and also leads to traffic jam. Sometimes, the villagers while constructing houses dump the construction material also by the roadside.”

“However, those who are dumping the construction material or parking their vehicles by the roadside doesn’t face any problem but they cause inconvenience to others. Sometimes, vehicles passing on such roads meet with accidents and often arguments are witnessed,” he added.

Another local Navanath Naik said that vehicle parking is often noticed by the roadside leading to Marcaim and Adpoi and at some places the roads are too narrow with minimum width of three metres and thus when a vehicle is parked it causes obstruction to traffic and chaos prevail. At many places, house and building construction material dumped by the roadside remain for a long time, which poses risk to commuters. 

Naresh Naik said that there is plenty of Comunidade land available in Ponda Taluka. Locals are not getting the Comunidade land for house construction while the migrants get it easily. The Comunidade land should be provided to the locals at a reasonable rate for house construction so that roadside parking will not occur.
