MARGAO: Taking serious note of the delay in the completion of the beautification work of Lohia Maidan, Margao, the contractor engaged by GSUDA has been instructed to complete the project by December 31, during a joint-inspection of the historic site by the Directorate of Municipal Administration, the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Margao Municipal Council and GSUDA on Friday.

As per the work order, the stipulated date of completion of the long-overdue revamp of the Maidan was February 10, 2022.

Earlier, the contractor blamed the delay on some modifications that needed to be done.

It may be recalled that the beautification work had courted several controversies-one, over a wall being built around the power supply transformer erected by the Electricity Department right inside the compound wall, and the other, over the provision of a door behind the stage.

After the inspection on Friday, Margao MLA Digambar told Herald that he had requested the authorities concerned to inspect the ongoing work at Lohia Maidan.

He also said that the Electricity Department has been asked to shift the transformers from Lohia Maidan to some other location, but it may take two or three months. Gurudas Pilarnekar, Director of the DMA, said that the major portion of the beautification work has been completed, and only the finishing touches remain.
