Loliem-Polem Comunidade says yes to Film City

CANACONA: In a significant development that could well have far reaching results, the largely attended extraordinary general body of Loliem-Polem Comunidade decided in favour of setting up a film city on their land.

The 41 of the 118 members of the Comunidade who met resolved to hand over 250 acres of its land called MadiTadap which is lying idle on the plateau to the Entertainment Society of Goa to set up the proposed Film City.

President of the Comunidade Vishwajit Varik while pointing out that this was a good crowd given the fact that generally there are only around 25 members present even when elections are to be held, said it was a progressive decision taken in the interest of benefitting the taluka overall.

While expressing pride that the land would be utilised to set up a non polluting industry, he was also elated that a Film City in Canacona would be a big boost to the talented people of the area.

“It is not a question of just land use, but of holistic development of taluka as it will result in employment generation besides of course nurturing local talent,” said Varik.

Vice President of the Communidade Bhushan Prabhugaonkar who has also served as a sarpanch of the village earlier, said this was the right way to tackle encroachments on Communidade lands lying idle.

“Faced with the likelihood of railway expansion, offering this land to ESG was the best option for overall development of our taluka,” he said.

It would be relevant to state that ESG vide an advertisement had sought 250 acres of land having a clear title for the purpose of setting up a film city in Goa.

The meeting of Loliem-Polem Comunidade yesterday was in view of the said advertisement that was published in the local newspapers.
