ANJUNA: Loud music blared blatantly from late night outdoor parties during the last weekend in the coastal belt of Anjuna, right under the watch of the authorities.

The parties that commenced at 5 pm in the evening continued till late nights, while some continued till next day morning till 9 am while blatantly violating the High Court directions.

Though few establishments have moved indoors, there are a large number of premises still playing loud music outdoors.

The High Court in its November 30, 2022 hearing had asked concerned authorities to take stern measures to stop loud music beyond 10 pm except on designated dates. Subsequently, the menace of loud music parties in the coastal belt had come under control. However, the same is now being flaunted.

The locals as well as the members of noise pollution monitoring committee of Anjuna confirmed several establishments had played very loud music beyond 10pm during the last weekend.

Desmond Alvares, former member of Anjuna Noise Pollution committee who even made written complaints, was helpless as none of the authorities appointed to act on such parties responded.

“I gave written complaint, but there was no effect whatsoever. I was left with the only option of dialling 112 since none of the other concerned authorities responded. Parties were going on without fail. Life is become hell. I am not sure what’s happening to the people in the immediate vicinity, but I am sure one day there will be a violent attack on these parties and only cops would be responsible for it,” Alvares said.

However Devanand Shirodkar, a member of the Anjuna Noise Pollution Committee said, “I did not receive any complaint of loud music during the last weekend.”
