Coast Guard rescues 4 crew members

PANJIM: MV Lucky 7, the offshore casino vessel, which was grounded late on Saturday at Aguada bay has now drifted closer towards the Miramar beach in Panjim.

The Coast Guard on Sunday morning rescued four crew members from the vessel who were injured in an attempt to control the vessel. Coast Guard officials said four crew members onboard MV Lucky. Seven were rescued following a helicopter-borne rescue operation, as choppy waters did not allow rescuing by boat.

MV Lucky 7, promoted by Golden Globe Hotel Private Limited (GGHPL), owned by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, had left from Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) jetty on Friday morning but could not reach its location due to rough weather. It had anchored for the night off Cabo Raj Niwas and Aguada light house.

On Saturday, it again made an attempt to move towards its final location but sources said a tug boat rope broke during the crossover and a few crew members in the vessel were injured.

Captain of Ports, James Braganza, told Herald that the vessel management officials have informed the ports that special arrangement was being done to tow the vessel.

He said for towing, the weather and tidal conditions have to be favourable. “It may take another day or two because of the rough weather conditions."

He said that there is no possibility of oil spillage. "The vessel has very less quantity of fuel, he added.

It may be recalled that the Bench of Bombay High Court at Goa by an order asked the Captain of Ports to inspect and give permissions to the vessel owned by Golden Globe Hotel Private Limited to enter Mandovi.
