PANJIM: The Crime Branch unit of Vithalwadi police station took custody of D-gang member Shyam Kishore Garikapatti on Wednesday, after the Mapusa JMFC granted a one-day transit remand. He was taken to Thane via road at about 1pm.
Garikapatti, the black scorpion, who police claim was involved in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and wanted in 18 major crimes, including the infamous JJ Hospital shootout, underwent three days custodial interrogation, after his arrest by Goa police from a Saligao bungalow, last Saturday.
During the hearing, his advocate Swapnil Nachinolkar submitted that Garikapatti be provided security during his transit period as there are threats to his life. The court while granting one day transit remand to the Crime Branch Unit III of Thane police also allowed the defence plea.
“The police may be directed to exercise precaution and protection for his safety while transporting him from Goa to Mumbai during the transit period and be allowed to carry his personal belongings such as medicines, clothes, etc,” the application reads.
He was escorted by a strong police force to Thane via road where he would be produced for fresh transit remand to be taken to Mumbai for interrogation. The court while granting one day transit remand to the Crime Branch Unit III of Thane police also allowed the defence plea.
