PANJIM: Congress on Wednesday said that the voters’ survey conducted by the national election watchdog will act as a “guide” for the electorate as they go for polling on April 23.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in the voters’ survey data released on Tuesday has revealed that the BJP-led coalition government has performed “poorly” and “underwhelmingly” on the majority of the top ten governance issues as rated by the voters.
Better employment opportunities, garbage cleanliness, lower food prices and quality roads are the top four priorities listed out by the voters.
Addressing media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesperson Rohit Bras De Sa, said that the survey has highlighted all those issues, which Congress has taken it up before the electorates during its ongoing poll campaign. “The voters’ survey is a report card of BJP government’s seven years governance in the State,” he said.
“The survey will act as a guide for the voters as they go out to cast their vote on April 23,” he said.
Goa will go for general elections for two Lok Sabha seats and by-polls in three assembly constituencies- Mapusa, Mandrem and Shiroda.
GPCC general secretary Trajano D’Mello said that with voters’ survey report out now, Congress will clean sweep all the five elections. “The electorate is smart and intelligent. Nobody can fool them now,” he said.
D’Mello also said that the BJP led-government, both at the Centre and in Goa, has nothing to credit itself during its rule and the question is on what criteria are they going for polls.
“Government is not going for polls based on its performance. But unfortunately, they are using emotional issues. The sacrifices of Indian armed forces are being used to garner votes by BJP. The Modi led-party is trying to take credit for the achievements of the defence forces and woo voters. This is something that never happened,” D’Mello said.
Congress leader claimed that a top defence official has written to Prime Minister requesting him to desist from using the security forces for election gains.
“Prime Minister is on record to state that if he fails to get the black money, burn him alive. In that case, Prime Minister should go for Sati, wherein a widow immolates herself on her husband pyre showing her love. Here, Prime Minister should do this for love of the nation,” added D’Mello.
