PANJIM: Congress has accused the Chief Electoral Office of protecting the ruling party and the state government in their gross violations of the model code of conduct and harassing the opposition.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee’s media convenor Trajano D’Mello said “The Chief Electoral Office in Goa is there only to trouble the opposition and are silent on the violations by the ruling party and misguide even the Central election Commission. After 20 days when we did not receive a reply to our complaint we filed a writ petition and on that day when the notice was served, the CEO informed the media that the matter has been decided that there was no violation.”

He was pointing out that the CEO has informed that the complaint against the appointment of two deputy chief ministers was rejected and it was within the law. Trajano said “In the reply that we received after 2 days, they have quoted article 164 of the Constitution which does not mention the position of the Deputy Chief Minister. The Election Commission sides with the government with all its violations and harasses us even when we are within the law.”

Meanwhile GPCC minority chairman Urfan Mulla condemned Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant for once again promising to restart mining activities and stating that only BJP can restart mining in Goa.

“The mining was banned by the BJP and during the last 7 years the party has not done anything. Both the BJP MPs speak in two different directions as they have no solutions o the mining problem and people are confronting them while they are out to campaign to be re-elected”, he added.
