MAPUSA/ PERNEM/ PONDA: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday slammed the Congress for using its Garibi Hatao promise only as a slogan without eradicating poverty in the country.

Addressing a public meeting in Mandrem, Gadkari said, “In the last 72 years, from gram panchayat to the Centre, Congress was in power for almost 60 years. However, from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Indira Gandi, Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi the promise of eradicating poverty from the country has remained only a mere promise. And now Rahul Gandhi is also giving the same promise.”

Gadkari alleged that the people have remained poor due to wrong economic policies, bad and corrupt governance and visionless leadership of the Congress. “But now people should compare the works carried out by the BJP government in last five years to the work carried out by Congress in the last 50 years and take the decision,” he said.

“In the last five years, Rs 15,000 crore was given to Goa from the transport department and now the people of Goa should also ask the Congress leaders, how much money the Congress government had spent for Goa, during the 50 years of its rule. What the Congress government failed to do in 50 years, the BJP government has done it in 5 years,” Gadkari said.

At another public meeting held at Mapusa,Gadkari, Gadkari spoke of everything being nice in Goa besides the party switching being done by the MLA’s which is going on because the correct people have not been voted.

“If Goa votes for Shripad Naik in the Lok Sabha election then we assure to make Goa a number one state. It will be free from air and water pollution. Goa has witnessed some development only because of the BJP. In the last five years Rs. 15,000 crores was given to be spent on road transport in Goa.  What money is given to Goa is only a trailer the real big picture is yet to be shown to the people. We are a rich nation with a poor population,” said Gadkari. He also spoke on the death of the two BJP leaders, late Manohar Parrikar and late Francis D’souza which came as a huge blow but their vision needs to be fulfilled.

Like in Mapusa, where Gadkari also called for the people to elect BJP in the by-poll, at a public meeting held in Ponda, he called for the people to vote for BJP in the Shiroda by-poll and Sawaikar for South Goa.

Gadkari targeted the Dhavalaikar brothers of the MGP  for  not honouring their word to withdraw from the Shiroda by-poll. He further justified the sacking of Sudin Dhavalikar from the cabinet and said while they enjoyed power in the BJP government, they were also close to Congress, which was not tolerable. Pointing out that following the merger of two former MGP MLAs with the BJP, what is left of the regional outfit is only the Dhavalikar family, and that this election would show them their place.  He appealed to the voters to see that this would their last and final election and that it should be their send-off and concluding ceremony.  “Let’s finish off MGP from the political era of Goa forever, “ added Gadkari.

He further asked Goans to provide stable government to the BJP so as to fulfill the dreams of former CM Parrikar of making Goa a prosperous state with the highest per capita income. He also assured to solve the mining issue after LS election.
