MARGAO: NCP’s Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Saturday accused former minister and Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado of filling the water bodies and agricultural land with mud in Sinquetim, Navelim.
He alleged that Avertano is opposing the bridge at Sinquetim to protect his self-interest.
Briefing media persons at Varca office, Churchill alleged that the dance floor is totally illegal and not a single government authority has given any permission.
"The pending construction work of Sinquetim Bridge has commenced. However, former MLA Avertano is opposing the bridge to protect his self-interest. In fact, he and a few of his close aides are involved in filling the water bodies and khazan land damaging the environment," he charged.
He said the government has assured him on the floor of the House that works pertaining to the bridge will go ahead and police protection will be provided if opposed.
“Action needs to be taken against Avertano for opposing bridge,” Churchill demanded.
He accused Avertano of corruption and claimed that he has built the petrol pump by filling the agricultural land. On the dance floor issue, he said not a single government authority has given permission for the same.
“In fact, a family had approached me complaining about the encroachment done to construct the dance floor. Accordingly, I had raised the issue in the Assembly,” he stated.
Churchill refuted the allegations that he had asked for money, however it was the dance floor owner, who had borrowed money from him and failed to return the same.
“I will resign from the politics if any panchayat from Benaulim Constituency proves that I have taken money,” he dared and submitted the copies of documents of alleged illegal dance floor.
Churchill said that the inspection carried out by the Coastal Zone Management Authority clarified that the dance floor and all other structures are illegal.
