MARGAO: Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council Ajit Panchwadkar on Friday assured the Margao new market vendors of solving their problems of urgent nature within a couple of weeks.

The vendors handed over the representation to the CO highlighting the issues such as fire safety, security, and also maintenance of sanitation in and around the market.

The vendors also requested for installation of CCTV cameras at every main gate i.e. the point of entry and exit to the MMC new market complex.

The Chief Officer informed that through the joint efforts of the vendors and the MMC it will be done immediately.

“The vendors have assured to fit the CCTV cameras at their cost which is a very good gesture,” Panchwadkar said.

The new market has been facing acute problems of illumination throughout. The vendors have complained that there is an urgent need for changing the old dated electricity supply wires which run across the market and requested for installation of new tube lights, fixtures and the fire hydrant system with a complete new connection.

"The recent fire that broke out at a shop inside the market could have well destroyed the entire area if not controlled on time," reminded Chief Officer while entrusting the municipal engineer to attend to the same and resolve it within one or two weeks.

Representative of the new market vendors Devidas Borkar also requested for the completion of toilet renovation work and installing a water tank for proper sanitation.

Borkar also made a case for the permissions for repairing and fixing of the shutter doors of respective shops in the new market complex.

A vendor from the new market Rafik Mohmmad informed that this issue has been long pending.

The Chief Officer said that he will look into the matter for resolution.

Issues surrounding the issuance of trade licences to the respective shop vendors whose applications/requisition for a trade licence and transfer formalities in respect of premises pending for the past several years also cropped up. But Chief Officer Panchwadkar has remained neutral on this demand of the vendors given the nature of the matter of ownership of the shops which is perplexed.
