MARGAO: Although, the financial capital of the State has been abuzz with rumours about who will be the chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai both on Tuesday asserted that nothing has been decided as yet.

“We are waiting for the government notification to elect the chairperson and only then shall Vijai and I sit together to discuss the matter,” said Digambar and Vijai also held the same stand. So for the record nothing will happen in Margao till the notification is issued.

However, the town has been abuzz with rumours that Digambar is in favour of a senior councillor from Margao becoming the chairperson but this is reportedly not acceptable to Vijai.

“These are all speculations and particularly by the media so let them speculate and we shall decide upon the matter when the time is right,” said Digambar.

Meanwhile, it would be relevant to point out that Lyndon Pereira who was fielded by Fatorda Forward had expressed his desire to be the chairperson as he was elected to the council for the second time in a row and from a different ward.

Pooja Naik, who was the chairperson of the dissolved council, is also in the running to become the chairperson as she has already served in this position earlier. Similarly, Ganashyam Shirodkar, who has been elected from Ward No 18, is also a contender by virtue of having served as a chairperson earlier.
