MARGAO: Angry at the rampant encroachment at the Aquem side of railway station in Margao, Municipal Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai has vowed to get tough with such illegalities.

“I have asked the Chief Officer of MMC not to go mild on these stalls. I have also asked the fire officer and the health officials to take the responsibility to put things in order,” Babita said. 

The chairperson said that the municipality had already taken up a similar clearance drive but the gaddas have only increased. When asked whether the increase of gaddas was due to the absence of hawking and vending policy of the MMC, the chairperson said, “That doesn’t condone their act of encroachment.”
