VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Sunday continued its drive against the fruit sellers who had encroached the roadside space and seized their goods.
MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues re-stated that such operations against illegal trade and encroachments will stay continued.
Some of the fruit sellers from the neighbouring States bring their fruits in mini trucks and sell them by the roadside. Since the fruits are fresh and relatively cheaper, locals stop their vehicles midway on the road to buy while blocking the route for others. This was brought to the notice of MMC by some and the civic body took action by seizing their goods. Meanwhile, the vendors doing their trade near Varunapuri-Mangor Hill highway, who were removed a couple days have re-captured the space. This has raised a question as to who is behind the respective sellers to pose a challenge in front of MMC.
