MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) technicians led by Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik along with officials of the Health Department and South Goa Planning and Development Authority inspected the storm water drains in the city to prepare a plan to stop pollution of River Sal.

The inspection covered all major storm water drains in the city along with houses and business establishments that release their waste water in these drains, many of which are maintained by the Water Resources Department, who do not even inspect the drains.

MMC and the Health Department will issue notices to those people found to be releasing their waste water in the drain. Incidentally, no representative of the Water Resources Department or the Sewerage Corporation was present for the inspection.

Meanwhile MMC team checked the 15 hotels it had raided on Tuesday and found that they had started segregating their waste. MMC also inspected seven other establishments on Wednesday to check whether the waste is being segregated or not.

On a similar note, MMC decided to take action against the leakage of liquids from trucks carrying waste. MMC pointed out that the same spills on to the roads and further causes health related problems.
