MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Friday issued a tender notice (e-tender) for the much discussed proposed multi-level car parking at Margao.

Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer of MMC said the estimated cost of the bid is Rs 6,57,25,261.

MMC has invited online percentage rate tenders from approved and eligible contractors of State Public Works Department registered in appropriate classes and categories for the works.

"The last date of online application is October 18, and the last date of online submission of bids is October 21. Prospective bid will be opened on October 22," said Fernandes.

Reportedly, the foundation stone was laid by MMC for the multi-level parking project six years ago.

After the new council took charge of the civic body it had been decided to revise the rate and re-tender the project so that the parking issue is being resolved. MMC’s ambitious multi-level parking project has received the administrative nod for the revised estimates from the Director of Urban Development.

Sources revealed that the revised estimate shows that the project cost has increased by Rs 2 crore. The original cost was pegged around Rs. 5.58 crore. Earlier, the Urban Development Director has accorded the administrative approval to the civic body to utilise the one-time Golden Jubilee grants of Rs 3 crore sanctioned by the government and to utilise the balance funds from the Finance Commission funds or from the Municipal funds. The project did not see light of the day on account of the GST tangle and the GSR rates, forcing the contractor to withdraw from the project.

New chairperson Lyndon Pereira, after taking charge had said that a multi-level parking project will be his one of the priority and he will see to it that this project is completed in his tenure.
