MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has begun Gandhigiri style recovery of tax dues from various defaulting institutions in Margao town.

The MMC team of Chief Officer and Tax Officials went to various banks in Margao and gave a rose to the in-charges to remind them to pay their dues. The MMC has decided to proceed with warrant against the defaulters if they delay further.

The MMC has prepared a list of major defaulters of which include Yes Bank, Vijaya Bank, Punjab National Bank and Andhra Bank who have defaulted payment of tax to the MMC. The team handed a flower to these bank in-charges and have informed them of consequences including warrant against the bank for the dues.

The banks have defaulted payment of over Rs 10 lakh and the MMC has decided to go with a heavy hand on the defaulters. Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik said, “These defaulters have been using the money which is the right of the MMC. They don’t attend phones; don’t reply to letters even after several attempts. We have started with request and will further harden our stand for recovery.”
