MOPA LAND OWNERS WERE OFFERED EXTRA COMPENSATION: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the Mopa land owners/protestors were offered compensation three times above the value by the government and that the road was finalised by the technical agency in consultation with the Mopa airport authority after considering the alignment and other parameters.

The major portion of the Mopa airport link road will pass through barren land with some part through cashew plantation and agricultural land, he said, adding that he had assured land owners three times more compensation as well as jobs and other offers.

Sawant claimed that no houses or any other structures lie in the land earmarked for the proposed road. He said the villagers should allow the authorities to complete the survey and after that if anybody loses a major portion of land or diversion needs to be done at some places, the government will do it. “I had kept all options open to them,” he said.

According to Sawant, he had met protestors from both the villages twice in the past and had assured them that the government will resolve all their issues including adequate compensation to land losers, farmers and tenants.

Referring to NITI Aayog’s sixth governing council meeting scheduled in Delhi on Saturday, Sawant said that all preparations for the meeting have been done and that he had already sent his letter to the NITI Aayog, mentioning the State’s issues.

Sawant said he will highlight issues related to infrastructure development, grants and sustainable development during the meeting to be held in virtual mode.
