MARGAO: South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha on Tuesday demanded that the State government completely cancel the land acquisition process for railway double-tracking instead of keeping it in abeyance indefinitely.

He said, “The people don't want a coal hub at the cost of their health.”

Sardinha asked the Chief Minister to open his eyes and get all the things that are detrimental to Goa and the interests of Goans cancelled.

“We don’t want a coal hub at the cost of people’s health. The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) should disclose how much coal is needed. But we don't want the State to become a coal hub," the South Goa MP said.

He also urged the government to stop the land acquisition process for railway double-tracking.

Speaking on the arrest of Fr Stan Swamy, Sardinha urged the Centre not to harass the minorities.

“Don’t put blames without any truth in them. These religious leaders have given yeomen contributions towards the education in the country and they shouldn't be treated this way," he added.
