PANJIM: The Mhadei Tribunal will start hearings and arguments in the water diversion case in February 2018.

PANJIM: The Mhadei Tribunal will start hearings and arguments in the water diversion case in February 2018.

On Tuesday the cros- examination of Maharashtra witness on hydrology ended, while Goa Forest Wildlife officer Paresh Porob, former Fisheries Director Shamila Montero,  environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar and Chief Engineer of Water Resource will submit  evidence before the tribunal. After that will be evidence from Maharashtra and Karnataka following which arguments will start.

The cross-examination of S N Huddar, witness deposing on the aspect of hydrology for Maharashtra continued on Tuesday and was conducted by the Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande. Huddar was cross-examined on the point of regression equation, rainfall runoff co-efficient as well as, on the aspect of experts report to which the witnesses had referred to Monday.

On Monday he had said that the rainfall runoff co-efficient for a smaller sub-catchment would be higher than a rainfall runoff co-efficient for a sub-catchment of a basin having a higher area. The witness was on Monday asked to find out the rainfall runoff coefficient for Virdi sub basin.

On Tuesday, he admitted that Virdi sub-catchment though smaller in size is much lower than the Ganjem sub-catchment though bigger in size and failed to explain the reason.

The Tribunal also asked the witness as to the acceptable range of rainfall runoff co-efficient to which he answered by saying that it cannot go above point 70. This is in complete contradiction to earlier answers that in Mhadei basin rainfall runoff coefficient is acceptable.
