MARGAO: The newly appointed assistant parish priest to Majorda church Fr Mario Souza re-invented agriculture for the parishioners and the youth by getting them together to cultivate half an acre of church field that was lying fallow all these years.

Quite a number of parishioners along with youth gathered in the field situated behind the church at around 10 am and by noon finished transplanting rice in the field that was tilled by a power tiller belonging to a parishioner who donated its use free for the church.

The material required for transplanting was provided free of cost by the people of the village and Fr Souza said the harvest once reaped would be sold and the money received would be distributed amongst those who worked for the project.

The whole exercise began in the morning with the parish priest Fr Ave Maria Afonso blessing the endeavour with a prayer.

Fr Souza who was earlier at Rachol Seminary had transformed that whole place and made it a thriving agriculture centre where vegetables of all kinds were not only grown but also sold thereby earning quite a bit of revenue for the seminary.
